Thank you for visiting the Cetacean Stranding Database project

After approximately a year and a half of updates, development of the Cetacean Stranding Database has ceased. As the project was originally intended as a technological feasibility experiment, having over a year of updates provided ample experience of working with the database. A report on these experiences as well as other results of this project will be published on this site as time permits. Although the project has ceased updates, the database will continue to be provided free of charge in the following two ways:

Original Information

The Cetacean Stranding Database was a project to create an easily-accessible repository of information on cetacean strandings throughout the world. The project aimed to compile information from many diffuse locations into a single, searchable database, thereby allowing the viewer to search and display stranding data in a dynamic and customizable manner. By reducing the need to search the internet or other periodical databases, the Cetacean Stranding Database hopes to save viewers significant research time by providing quality-controlled information on strandings.

Use of the database is provided free of charge with proper citation. If this is your first time using the database, the How to View and Helpful Info pages offer advice on how to best use and search the database. Otherwise, feel free to view the database. If you would like to find out more information on the database itself, including notes on purpose, scope, structure, and methodology, you can head to the About the Database page.
